About buying gold in Nepal

Nepal's gold price is fixed daily by the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association and quoted per tola.

Is gold cheaper in Nepal or India?

The raw gold price in India is usually higher than the international price because of India's import duty (15% since May 2026: 10% basic customs duty + 5% AIDC). So plain gold is often cheaper abroad. But making charges in India are frequently lower, and if you bring jewellery above the duty-free limit you will pay customs duty at the airport, which can cancel the saving.

Bringing gold from Nepal to India

Under India's baggage rules, a passenger resident abroad for more than one year can bring gold jewellery duty-free up to 20 g for men and 40 g for women, with value limits. Above that, customs duty applies. Rules change, so check the latest CBIC guidance before you fly. Read our guide: how much gold can an NRI bring to India.
