Can NRIs invest in Sovereign Gold Bonds?

Updated: 13 Oct 2026. Live rate every 30 seconds.

Sovereign Gold Bonds (SGBs) can be subscribed only by resident Indians. An NRI cannot buy new SGBs. If you bought them while you were a resident and later became an NRI, you can continue to hold them until early redemption or maturity.

Alternatives

Depending on your country of residence and Indian FEMA rules, options include gold mutual funds through an NRE/NRO account, or buying physical gold in India. Some countries restrict NRIs (for example US/Canada residents) from investing in Indian mutual funds; check with your bank.
